finished your book last night and enjoyed it immensely. I would like to start by saying that I think every new officer in
the academy should be required to read your book."

"Thanks
so much for sending The Real Police! I have to tell you that when it arrived I skimmed through
it -- I ended up spending two afternoons reading it cover to cover instead of doing the things I was supposed to be doing
because it was so fascinating!"
- university librarian

"I
really appreciate the feelings and thoughts I've tried to express to family and friends (who really have no clue about
police work) - nicely printed out in a format I could hand to them. My mom's reading it now. ... your book was a great
reminder to me as to why I became a cop in the first place. Thank you."
- police officer, Seattle
**************************************************************************************************
"The
way you talked about things made me feel like I knew those people or was there with you. Great stuff. ... Thanks for writing
the book, I feel more aware because of it. I have three friends who are police officers and had no idea that's what their
work world was like."
- civilian reader, banking industry
*************************************************************************************************
"I'm
also recommending it wholeheartedly to anyone who enjoys excellent writing from a veteran policeman - a real policeman."
-
retired police officer, author, New Orleans

read it in one day ... Then my partner read it the next day and liked it so much that it also took him one day ... My Mom

"I
loaned a copy to a retired policeman here in town, and he thought you had done a great job of writing - he said he could "picture"
every word you wrote - high praise, indeed!"
- independent bookstore owner, Washington State

"...Once
again I wish to express my appreciation for your "Real" book. I am giving copies to my friends, former officers,
and officers-to-be. Your book has prompted a great deal of discussion among my comrades, retired officers of the _________
Police Department. Thanks for the real thing."
- retired officer, Washington State

"...
I've tried desk jobs and it was a bad fit. I am happy on patrol. Thanks for telling it the way it is."
-
veteran deputy sheriff, Washington State

"I
could not put your book down. As the mother of a _______ policeman for 27 years, he tells me his favorite job on the force
is a patrol cop. Your book gave me a true appreciation of his feelings. Thank you for writing your book."
-
mother of the above deputy sheriff.

"...
I've just finished reading your book and it was a great read. ... It was quite dangerous but fun as you say in your book,
I miss the job but not the bureaucracy. ..." (excerpted from a detailed letter).
- retired NYPD officer, New
York
(The writer is a veteran of "the four-one" - 41st Precinct - "Fort
Apache, The Bronx." The 1981 movie "Fort Apache the Bronx," starring Paul Newman was based on the experiences
of this officer and his partner. It's always great to hear from guys who have been there and back.)
**********************************************************************************************
"I
just finished reading your book for the second time. Each time I couldn't put it down and each time I thoroughly enjoyed
it. ... I have been a working cop for the past 25 years and started on the ________ Police Department at a time when the last
vestiges of the "Old School" cops were in their twilight. ... I was awed at the tough, common sense approach
they brought to the job. ... congratulations on the book, just wish it had been longer."
- municipal police
officer, Washington State

"I
have recently returned from vacation in Maine where as part of my beach reading I had your book. ...
In May 2005
I retired (as an Inspector, same as a Lieutenant) after thirty-three years in London's Metropolitan Police (joined in
1972). All my service (apart from the last four years where I worked in counter-terrorist protection duties) I spent on patrol
duties, as an officer, sergeant and finally Duty Inspector (Watch Commander). I'm now an Inspector in the Ministry of
Defence Police ... . In both forces the term "the real police" is regularly used to differentiate between those
in "patrol" and those that sit in offices!
Although we worked thousands of miles apart, your descriptions
of the experiences of policing struck a very strong note with me. A great book. I was sorry it ended ... .
Thanks
again, until you reminded me I hadn't realised just how much policing changed during our time of service. If you ever
come over to the UK, I'd love to buy you a drink and chat things through."
- retired Inspector, London
Metropolitan Police (Scotland Yard).

"I
would like to make my best congratulations for your book The Real Police. I am an Italian Carabinieri (Italian police
force) and I went to Seattle last March. I decided to go to the Police Museum and I found your book there. I read it in every
single detail despite the book isn't written in Italian.
I am in Carabinieri academy school to become a warrant
officer in Velletri (close to Rome). I like how you operate and work as a police force, but we have different methods based
on the different reality we face every day, first of all the people. But the spirit of being a cop is the same, the spirit
to save a life, to help someone, to believe in what we do with passion and knowledge."
- Carabinieri
officer, Italy
(The Carabinieri, founded in 1814, is the national police force of Italy.
It also functions as the fourth branch of the Italian military and has many complex military, law enforcement and diplomatic
functions - everything from military combat to investigating thefts of fine art and antiquities. They also have a sizeable
uniformed presence in Italian civil society and function like any police force. The writer of this letter is a law school
graduate and currently an officer candidate at the Carabinieri Academy.)

"I really loved reading
The Real Police. I almost couldn't put it down.
It's funny, informative and gripping all at once. I recommend it to all my friends and family to read. I know I'm
looking forward to reading anything else you write. Second book? That's a gentle nudge from a fan."

"I am a relatively new officer with ________. Your book has been a valuable tool for me during this process.
Whenever I reflect on a difficult call I'm glad I can refer to your book for insight. Thanks again for taking the time
to put on paper the memories of a long and eventful career."
- police officer, large West Coast city.

"I loved your
book ... You have an incredible talent for putting down your experiences in a very inviting way for the reader. Thank you
for a great book and a wonderful source of inspiration. Officers of my generation have large footprints to try to fill."
- police officer, large West Coast city.

"I love your book. ... You should think about writing a novel; your style is perfect. You make an under-powered
electrical system sound interesting; I laughed all the way through that. Of course, I had experienced the same thing."
- retired police officer, Baltimore
(The writer is Barry Baker, who has written a very effective
book of guidance for people entering police work. It's at www.careerpoliceofficer.com )

"I recently used the 'cottage cheese' tactic on an emotionally disturbed person, it was a success! The rookie
I was training that day got a real kick out of it as well. I just want to thank you for publishing it, and let you know that
cops attitudes never change."
- police officer, Long Island, New York
(This officer
is a trained professional. Don't try this tactic at home - and don't tell his supervisor.)
